"Completely an outdated & commercial flicker"
1.5/5
Aacharya is a routine & outdated flick with a dash of commercial elements which never impress though. Megastar along with the Little Megastar was a feast for eyes of all the movie goers for their golden presence on screen, but we're they able to sustain the same magic, recreate the expected aura? Read along to know the answer.
01. 'Aacharya' in a dab.
Aacharya opens to a serious note, with people of so called 'Padaghattam' who reside at 'Dharmasthali' along the river 'Jeevadhaara' which lies on the coast to 'Siddhavanam' !! (Hahh! I made it 😂! There's lot of geography in the film & don't worry Siva Koratala makes sure that by the time you leave the chairs, you are thoroughly revised with the names- such many times they all are repeated- IRONICALLY!!)
Jokes apart - So, these so called priests & community people of Padaghattam are used to perform daily rituals to "Ghattamma"(A godess whom they worship) & their occupation is to make Auyrvedic medicines & treat the local people.
So, like in 90's films- every good & happy story has a bad villain who hails from the same community but's a spoiled brat. Same here, we have Sonu Sood as Basava who tries to deteriorate the community's reputation & keeps torturing the people over there for his sadistic benefits & also like the same old commercial flick- he's even connected with industrial mafia.
So, like out of somewhere, we'll probably have a super hero who comes in as a saviour in all such situations right! Hence we have Chiranjeevi as Aacharya who has come to help these Padaghattam people & he has got a purpose, flashback & he's own reasoning definitely. But clearly none could win over the boring & repetitive nonsense.
Chiranjeevi when questioned by the villagers about his whereabouts, then he reveals about the flashback & another good wise man- Siddha(Ram Charan) & his bonding with this man. Once upon a time these people of Padaghattam find a days baby on the shore of Jeevanadi & they adopt him & own him. Later, he's Siddha. But something, these people do not know is that, he belongs to naxalites family that is where Chiranjeevi too has association with- a very small story. But things somehow turn upside down & Siddha is brought to forest area - Siddhavanam with stabbed wounds & there again this Siddha starts working as a naxalite, but is aware of his responsibilities of saving the Dharma in Padaghattam.
*SPOILER ALERT* There after Siddha is shot to death in a naxalite attack & that is where he asks Chiranjeevi to take up the responsibility of restoring Dharma in Padaghattam & you all would guess the rest easily - Predictable right?!
02. What's clearly wrong with Aacharya?
Absolutely predictable- dull- outdated & utter slow paced story. Right from the beginning there is not even a single frame which appears interesting. As the proceedings take time again & again - that's the headache! I don't know why Koratala brought back such silly stupid - already saturated script to this Father-Son duo & ironically why did they accept it?! Entire film itself is wrong - no minus points with screenplay, editing, cinematography, script or even the story - but still it's on a boring side & why? Coz it's a known - Predictable silly commercial entertainer with a serious story!
03. How did Chiranjeevi & Ramcharan's duo work?
Absolutely they were a treat to eyes together. But Chiranjeevi is completely out of his form, no energy, lethargic & dozzy expressions. To mention- just a couple or more scenes along with Charan appeared good- that's it. All his dance moves too appeared lifeless & weak. No offense - we cannot expect him to be his son's calibre at this age of six tens. But,felt has pressure & stress in his eyes- working for this film. No matter even if it's sun in the solar system, it should shed one day, so Chiranjeevi sadly cannot get any better with this outdated script.
Ramcharan as Siddha is simply amazing. This youngster with his beautiful charm, grace & attitude pulls off the charcter on his shoulders with ease. Comparatively to Chiranjeevi, his role got a weightage & a reason. I loved him. If not for Ramcharan, there's ain't a moment, atleast one though - to watch for in Aacharya.
04. Pooja Hegde & other cast.
Like every other 90's film heroine, Pooja too is there for name sake waiting years & years for her soulmate. She had nothing to do, just wait n watch others act- that's it. Absolute waste.
Tanikella Bharani, gets a meatier role & he aces as the priest but he's overshadowed towards the ending, his character doesn't get any neat finish. None of the characters get, that's a different issue however!
Ajay, Sonu Sood too get a good screen time. But, you know, nothing will even matter in such films.
05. Technicalities in the film.
Editing & cinematography did fine. Visuals too looked great, but what's the use when film itself has no base. But, Chiranjeevi portraying a younger self of him was a way awkward. VFX at that serious juncture evokes laughter in theatre & you all can imagine how worst it is!
Music by Manisharma was good but that's not enough. Songs weren't that effective at all. BGM too was on a weaker side. Not a fault of Manisharma, but that didn't reach that altitude of expectations, that's it. May be formulated DSP would have been a better choice.
06. What about Siva Koratala's trademark?
I dunno, what really went wrong with this film, but nothing worked for this film right from the beginning. If you expect another Srimanthudu or Janatha Garage, then for sure- you'll be disappointed. Koratala is the main reason behind such henious output of this film. His direction & screenplay were of least quality.
07. Final remarks about Aacharya.
I firmly didn't like the routine commercial & outdated story. I won't recommend it for you. Wait for the OTT release, don't waste your money for such silly film. Even if you are a fan of Ramcharan or Chiranjeevi- doesn't matter- you'll be disappointed.
