"A modern-age love story for today's love that comes with a caution board too"
01. How's 'Love Today' in general?
Love Today, the film which garnered too much attention nowadays has really pulled everyone to watch the flick. In my opinion absolutely Love Today is a present generation film & connects to youth in much broader way. It is a rom-com with dosages of comedy on a higher scale, but nevertheless executes the hidden message with perfect dealings & that's the whole point where the film becomes an instant winner. Love Today directed & enacted by Pradeep Ranganathan- the Comali fame director is an experimental & interesting story too.
02. Plot of Love Today.
Pradeep Ranganathan as Utthaman Pradeep & Ivana as Nikitha take up the responsibility of lead roles. The story opens to their tantrums which appears to be, to the viewers, but they're in deep love with each other which appears to be, for them, all the routine stuff is exposed at first, like gifting each other, being possesive, over caring, messaging, calling on video etc etc, everything that happens when you fall in love. But, right from the beginning the important element is 'Mobile phone' & is used to every possible extent in the film stating that it has something to do with the film.
Radhika as Saraswathi (Utthaman's mother) is really annoyed with his son & him all the time with his phone, she believes that every problem that's happening around him is because of his phone. Sathyaraj as Venu Shasthri (Nikitha's father) is a typical Tamil pandit who's intelligent to sense all the things. Yogi Babu as Dr. Yogi & Raveena Ravi as Divya are Utthaman's to be brother-in-law & sibling respectively. After all the introductions the problem starts when Utthaman is introduced to Venu Shasthri by her daughter. Venu Shasthri asks to exchange each other's phones to know much about each other & after which when they're ok, then he gives a tick to their alliance.
That's how both of them fall in trouble. After the swapping, first Utthaman knows about Nikitha & later in second half Nikitha knows about Utthaman. To not reveal the thrill, am stopping right here, watch the film to unlock suspense.
03. What Love Today is spectacular for.
Love Today still being a normal rom-com has a peculiar way of dealing with the theme. The theme that the film carriers is absolutely powerful, but Pradeep is very brilliant in telling it to the audience, at some point of time when you choose such themes to preach audience, you have to preach no other go, that becomes a documentary then, but without even a single dialogue that's like a speech nor preaching, Pradeep perfectly blends the theme with comedy & screenplay, that's how the cinema wins here.
Now-a-days, mobile phones are everything & everywhere, they replaced every single tool & our mindsets too. As to the advancement of technology, is the advancement of cringey mindsets. It's a common thing that girls, the teenagers have a desire to talk to boys, maintain a good rapport, still talk to other boys despite being loyal to their relationship with other boys but still in a good manner at the same time it's common to young boys to have excessive thoughts about sexual pleasures, porn, girls etc etc, but still not in a harmful way. Yet those types are common & perfectly alright, because that's how we humans are, then only we are said to be biologically correct. But these mobile phones literally gave multiple options to choose their pleasures & get drenched into them.
So, excessive of anything & a deviation from being straight is always a problem. Same happens in this film, and Pradeep neatly designs the theme with a brilliance in blend of comedy & entertainment. I can speak for pages & pages but there's a constraint, so watch the film to experience much.
04. How are the performances.
Evey character does justice. But performances of Pradeep, Radhika & Sathyaraj just stand out. Radhika is brilliant in the climax scene.
05. What all entertain you in the film?
Literally everything, yeah! The comedy, screenplay & the script, everything are balanced well. Never boredom creeps that's yet another plus. The story goes on with twists & highs to keep the audience glued that's much interesting. Unique flow of story is another winner. Comedy lovers will surely connect to the film.
06. Drawbacks?
Like every film this film isn't any exception from flaws, it has it's mistakes.
- The comedy is a plus as well minus too, people who expect a seriousness in the theme will never be able to find it & that might irritate.
- There is a loop in the film, it goes on & on, like you'll not be able to find anything other than the lead pairs digging into each other's phones & hurling themselves in the entire film.
- Might not connect to everyone, it's not a possibility that middle aged people though using phones, but still will not be able to match the pace of this new age comedy film, for being just the 'Youngsters film'
- Not everyone is happy with the hyper way of performance nor the taking. There is a typical Tamil style of performances in action & in dialogue delivery too, so may not appeal to all kinds of audience.
05. Final verdict.
I enjoyed & loved it! Sure most of you will too. Ending the year with a perfect film & review! Here's one more recommendation from my side, stay happy, watch a good film & relax. Happy New Year ❤️
