'Routine, Boring, Yet again the very similar horror genre film without cringe elements'
01. 'Masooda' in & out.
'Masooda' a supernatural Telugu film that has garnered alot of buzz off- late, has done a very good job in the market too. Masooda is not an exception to all other horror films that have come in the past but however the cringe is not there here. How come Masooda is a different film from all other supernatural films is that it doesn't have a sensless comedy track, too many illogical elements & above all the cringe is absent, thank god- that's the only point saving this film from suffereing a super failture.
Coming to the plot, Masooda is a horror genre film with three main characters and their connection to the ghost- Masooda, so basically entire film is on a very serious note, no unwanted deviations, the film strictly adheres to the story & script, on that point this film actually wins. We have, Thiruveer as Gopi Krishna who is playing a lead role in the film, he's a software employee & is actually innocent by nature, afraid of ghosts like all other horror films. Next, we have a mother & daughter played by Sangeetha (Neelam) & Bandhavi Sridhar (Naziya) respectively. Neelam is a school teacher & Naziya is in the same school studying IXth std. Gopi is a neighbour to Neelam & Nazia, & also a well-wisher to them, he helps them in all their chores, as Neelam's husband is a rouge & has already seperated from her, but keeps blackmailing her whenever he needs money.
The story opens to an investigation scene, where the cops are found at a gruesome murder scene of a woman who has been stabbed for atleast 17 times or more & hung on a tree in an old house. Before this, we find some muslim persons getting killed & that is absolutely predictable to one watching that this particular scene will be related towards the second part of the film. Cut right tehre, we are into the world of Neelam, Nazia & Gopi Krishna, each one of them is busy with their worlds. Gopi Krishna has a love interest in his office with Kavya Kalyan Ram as Mini, & this love track has no connection with the film at all, this is something that turns off lights in the film each time when it's brought onto the screen.
Later, we find Neelam & Gopi in trouble as Naziya starts to behave abnormally, she behaves as if she's the ghost. Helpless Neelam & Gopi try too many ways to get Nazia out of trouble, but fail in all the attempts. Some how, they meet a priest who's treating all such witched people, Rizwaan played by Shubhalekha Sudhakar. He's the one, who finds what's the actual problem with Nazia's behaviour. He finds that she's being troubled by a witch called 'Masooda' & all of them go behind to find out everything about Masooda. To know about Masooda, you too should watch the film.
02. What will impress you in Masooda?
The very first thing that impresses you in Masooda is despite being the routine horror film, it still stays true to the storyline & there is'nt atleast one element in the film that actually dilutes the story except the love track between Gopi & Mini. Secondly, like all the horror films, there is'nt any stupid comedy with unneccessary fuss. The film right from the beginning is onto the story & stays honest in justifying it. The eerie elements in the film will surely entertain the audience in theaters & home-theaters. The director makes sure that there are enough hair-raising moments that put the audience into an absolute frightening state.
03. Charecterization?
Sangeetha as Neelam & Rizwaan as Shubhaleka Sudhakar are brilliant. But rest all other characters need some schooling in acting, they just fade out in many scenes, their acting is below par in almost all the scenes, especially Thiruveer's acting is worse, neither his expressions nor his acts match the plot of the film.
05. Minus in the film.
The absolute slow pace in the first half & non- sync editing, the transformation from scene to scene is just terrible. The biggest draw backs in the film is, it has a single story & you have to wait atleast 1hour 30 minutes to watch what that story is, no other go. You have to bear all the lag and non-sense untill the flashback is revealed. Even after the suspnse is unlocked, the story is'nt on tracks, it still goes on revolving around some fussy stuff. And, I personally feel, that the director is inspired by Arundathi alot, there are many referrences in this film.
06. Why I did'nt like the film & why it is not different from any other horror-suspense thriller films?
Except for the point that there is no cringe in the film & it satys loyal to the story, entire film is just slow, lagging & unnecessarily pulled so far. Like many others are opining, it has some nail-biting frightening moments, but I did'nt get excited for atleast one! Probaly due to the looping, like don't we find all these eerie scenes in all the horror films? We will right? So, why the air of excitment? It's not any new. Next, as I told there is only one single story, for which the entire film longs to connect with it, I felt like the director just had that small short story about Masooda & he tried patching rest everything.
Finally, I will'nt recommend this to you, if you are a logic lover & not too interested in horror films like me. Even the persons who love horror films, will find few boring elements, coz the film is loyal to the story & no other routine elements like in all other horror films. So, no recommendation from my side, it's upto you to watch or not. My verdict is, I did'nt like the film.
