Brave Yet Subtle!

01. All about 'Mission Majnu'

The title brilliantly satisifies the plot of the film. It is literally an encounter of a spy's personal love intrest with his dealings in professional life & how he successfully wins over both the lives. Siddharth Malhotra as Agent Amandeep Singh aka Tariq is a RAW agent working to India from Pakisthan, he keeps reporting all the happenings in Pakisthan that harm India & is duly sincere & dedicated to his profession & his motherland. Entire film is about a mission where Amandeep & his fellow agents work on a report in exposing Pakisthan's illelagal plans of nuclear bomb testings after successfully winning over a petition to stop India from proceeding with nuclear testing in legal legimates. in the entire course, this agent has a love interest Nasreen Ali by Rashmika Mandana who is blind & also wife of Tariq. Hence, the directir brilliantly balances the love track with the thrilling suspense plot, so the name - Mission Majnu.

02. What impresses the most?

Misssion Majnu is actually a spy story in & all, his hardships, his personal problems, his flashback cover story, his dedication, his love, his attempt to stay loyal to his profession, motherland & partner even when the Earth decides to break into pieces. The way the proceedings directly expose the truths in the film without any conspiracy or butter dippings is really jaw-dropping. Literally we all heard stories about post & pre consequences during 1971 Indo- Pak war & nuclear testings in the reign of Moraji Desai & Md. Zia Ul Haq in India & Pak respectively, but  o body knew what's the actual truth. But, bringing all those stories together & giving it a cinematic form without any contravesries is something brave & commendable from the directorial team.

Siddharth Malhotra as Aman Deep Singh or Tariq is just too perfect. NO others could have justified this role like him. I wonder why he does'nt gety such meaty roles in Bollywood despite such heap of talent. When ever he was on screen, he lit the screen with his own charisma & mannerisms. Especially the train fight scene & that damn climax will bring in chills through spine. Love & wish that he gets to act more of films like this, Shershah & others.

Rashmika as Nasreen is ok, i think this is her best till date. I don't know, why this lady never impressess me with her act, but here she just looked fine, because she had nothing musch to do, excpect to act like a homely woman & loving wife, that's it. In climax her act just irriates, she's poor at emoting, her tears will evoke fun, she's such poor actress. Don't know when she's gonna improve.

03. About the backdrop.

Entire cinema is about Pak not being able accept the defeat in Indo-Pak war 1971 & planning a carryout of nuclear testing centre in an a illelegal mean after restraining India from successfully developing a nuclear test in Rajasthan in 1974 in all legal means & this naked truth being exposed by Indian RAW agents is all the film about. The lives of RAW agents always create an air of tension in all of us & a film about them is absolutely thrilling to watch. Say, Vikram, Sardaar, Goodachaari etc etc, these films always have no detailed explaination from point to point but have so much to tell.

Film covers or touches almost everything, from Indira Gandhi's risky decisions to Moraji Desai's peace policy, to General Md. UL-Haq's unruly conspiracy in smashing India & Pak's wrath to destroy India & the lives of RAW agents. So, this forms the basic storyline of the film.

04. Loopholes in the film.

Though the director has brought in a very powerful story, he had a plan of infusing a sensible love story of the protagonist, that part of the story creates a lot of deviations in the film taking away the soul. Cannot say that love track is the biggest loopehole, but cannot even accpt that it is the success key too.
The pace & editing of the film is just terrible. You need an entire first half's time to get into the skin of the film. Untill, second half the film is just mediocre or even less than that. The fiction getting into the way or the way it is projected does'nt gel well.

Technicalities have not scored any qualifying mark, they're just poor. Except the two songs- though act like obstacles but still, one by super talented Sonu Nigam impresses, however the BGM too terribly fails. Editing is baad, cinematography is ok.

05. About OTT streaming & my opinion.

It's a good idea that the team decided to give it to Netflix, otherwise it would be a problem for the film to run in theaters. The film is'nt that bad to be taken awy, yet not too good that it should be lauded.
I though cannot opine anyways, it's like a documentary, person who's familiar with those consequences in past would relate to the screenplay, other wise it's an utter waste to those who watch it without that knowledge or atleast you should do the homework before watching the film.

In my opinion, it's a one time watch.
