Modern Twist & a Fabricated Homage to a Timeless Classic
01. All about Mahavatar Narasimha.
This animated 3D visualisation of Mahavatar Narasimha is a reinterpretation of the yesteryear's timeless classic Bhakta Prahlada - 1967 which itself is a depiction of the great Telugu Adaptation of Bhagavatam written by the legend Bammera Pothana. This is already a very well known Ithihasa of the ardent devotee Sri Bhakta Prahlada who opposed his Rakshasa father Hiranyakashipa the son of Kashyapa & Drithi in his foolish retaliation against the lord Vishnu. Henceforth the greatest among all avathars the Narasimha avathar comes on to save his pious disciple Prahalada.
02. What actually is too good in the film & how far it fares?
There is not much until the pre-climax of the film to talk about in this film. Though it's a depiction of a timeless classic or Ithihasa or purana, but still somewhere the film qualifys as just a normal film. The way the avathar is portrayed or made it through makes it a watch worthy and goosebumps laden film. The way the Narasimha avathar originates & kills the demon Hiranyakashipa is very well shot & executed. Understanding the limitations & confinement of the film to animation - to be said frankly, it's a very well made film.
03. Comparisons to the old classic film Bhakta Prahlada & the legend Bhagavatam.
I think entire movie is straight away inspired from the yesteryear's timeless classic Bhakta Prahlada, from scene to scene & dialogue to dialogue. But it is a duplicate or much of a lackluster kind tribute to the original film. Totally understandable that it's an animation & there are many limitations & it cannot replicate the same classic like yesteryear but still I can term this as pale imitation of the original film.
If putting that aside & talking about original Purana description or Ithihasa - film cannot stand tall in those terms & ends up falling flat in fusion of fictional elements & many other pale imitations. This isn't any classic as the dialogues nor the frames create no such atmosphere & more or less it's a film for today's generation kids. The fictional fight sequences between lord & demon appears more or less like a battle between good over evil or a basic hero VS villian thing rather evoking complete divinity. That was a spine chilling climax no doubt - but lacks pure divinity & originality.
04. Technical Departments?
Rock Solid! Provided it's an animated visualisation - film stands great in terms of quality, CG & VFX works. The fact that the animation is able to produce lively content speaks why audience are in queues to the theatre. Great work from the Hombale Films. Music & BGM also do justice within their specific boundaries. But somewhere I think songs could have been much more better & a bit of classical touch to be given to match the emotions - may be Ilaiyaraja or ARR could have done justice.
05. Final take.
It's a FANTASTIC WATCH! Fiction combined with classic & Ithihasa makes it interesting & great that these contents are still making audience groove on them. Already said, limitations to the film's visualisation - it's an animation, hence I believe it has still done full justice in that perspective.
If not the other side of coin like how I felt- if you are a serious lover of Ithihasa & expecting some serious & straight forward content- than its on a disappointing note. The film doesn't qualify to be a good one, entire lagging first half with half cooked dialogues no proper importance to language & scene work coming to second half making it a duel between demon & God which appears very very fictional with minimal purity.
